St. John’s College Boarding Department is a place apart, with a unique atmosphere, which will impress most visitors. It is a happy, stimulating environment, and those who get to know the College, come to regard it as a very special place indeed. St. John’s is a forward-looking school, continually making subtle changes to the already excellent infrastructure of the Boarding Department, and as such, enjoys a good reputation in the south of England. Traditional standards are maintained, and every child is encouraged to contribute to the very fabric of the Department, sharing all experiences, and developing a true empathy for one and other. The result is a system, which is both educationally rewarding and personally enriching.

A young person’s years at school are probably the most formative of their lives. Apart from the obvious physical and mental development, these years also see the evolution of the inner person. This is where the spirit of self-motivation, which cannot be taught, is nurtured. Here a sense of purpose will emerge, loyalties and friendships will grow. There are many who look back on their days at St. John’s College, both as day-students and boarders, with warm appreciation and pride, recalling their transition from childhood to adulthood. Because of this warm bond, many have even returned to the College to teach!
