Boarding Chapel Services

Chapel WebThe Boarding Chapel Services are a hidden gem at the heart of the School. Every Thursday at 5.30pm the boarders and the boarding staff gather to worship together. They file in quietly and are given a hymn book at the door. Boys and girls know where their House sits and they walk respectfully to their seats.

The organ may be playing or Mr Bedingham’s orchestra will be waiting to play the songs chosen for that week. Our close neighbours from the De La Salle community, Brother Sean, Brother Ignatius and Brother Gerald are always present and they bring any guests they may have staying and the Headmaster comes as often as he can.

Boarders bandEach boarding house takes a turn in preparing and taking the service; you never know quite what to expect. Pupils may be acting in an amusing play, singing in a small choir, taking part in a rowdy game or quietly listening to talks and Bible readings. There is often a great deal of laughter as pupils and staff present their version of the Christian message. The orchestra rehearse each week and can play any hymn requested. And if the service finishes a few minutes early, Mr Bedingham takes the opportunity to lead us all in a loud and heartfelt song. At the end Mr Renahan congratulates and encourages all who have taken part in this community worship before the pupils file out to their supper.
