Applied Business GCSE
Summary
This GCSE course aims to enable pupils to gain an understanding of the nature of business by actively experiencing the business environment by application - through company case studies and some visits. The qualification is obtained by using the syllabus work, covered during the term, to meet the requirements of two examinations and one Controlled Assessment.
Over the duration of the GCSE course students will cover the following subject areas:
- Setting up a business
- Growing as a business
- Investigating business
Beyond the classroom
We aim to bring this subject to life and inspire interest and enthusiasm from its pupils through a number of trips and speakers. By exposing pupils to experienced and insightful academics and practitioners they are able to gain a much richer contextual understanding of their subjects and that this will translate into strong examination results. The course is enhanced by trips to the Bank of England, and the London Metal Exchange. Pupils also take part in a Business Breakfast; ‘Have I got News for St John’s’ – a business and economics forum; and a School Speaker Circuit, where successful entrepreneurs and business experts speak to students about their experiences.
