Physical Education
The Physical Education programme is designed to contribute to, support and compliment the aims and objectives of the school. Principally, Physical Education aims to develop in young people the enthusiasm, competence and understanding to pursue an active lifestyle by regularly taking part in sporting activity.
Physical Education seems to promote the physical, intellectual, social and emotional development of the individual through a coherent, balanced, enjoyable, challenging and meaningful programme of physical activity within a formal school curriculum.
Specialist teachers of Physical Education will deliver the formal curriculum. The modular programme of activities is based upon a balanced selection of athletics, games, gymnastics and dance, swimming, net and wall games and health-related fitness. The programme is structured to allow for the principals of continuity, depth, differentiations and progression in learning.
The curriculum is delivered with the aid of specialist coaching staff, who deliver a range of clubs and special initiatives which seek to provide access for all students to participate in further physical activity and to develop personal competence. Schools teams provide the opportunity for those interested and able students to participate in inter school competition.
