St John's Singing Day
Last Friday, 3 May, was the inaugural St John’s Singing Day which took place all day in the NBH.
In total over 150 children aged between 9 and 13 years spent a day of fun and music making. Of the 150 children, approximately 100 were visitors to St John’s. The choirs of Oakwood School, Sherborne House School and King’s Court School joined our St John’s Junior School Choir, Girls’ Choir and the Chapel Choir.

During Easter Week our Chapel Choir became the ‘choir-in-residence’ of St Paul’s Cathedral in London.
The Choir were invited by the Cathedral to deputise for the Cathedral Choir for the week, after they sang a one off service there last summer. It is an enormous privilege to sing in such a world famous building, but to be invited to sing all the services for the week is a wonderful achievement for our Choir.

Musicians Have Talent 2013 aims to showcase some of the great musical talents at St John’s College and the performances and talents presented throughout the evening most definitely lived up to expectations. The judges of the competition – the Head of Music at Portsmouth High School, the Sub-Organist of Portsmouth Cathedral and Mr Kennedy - had the daunting task of choosing winners from the many exceptional performances that showed great musicianship, maturity and skill.

GCSE Coursework
One of this year’s GCSE Textiles coursework projects was entitled ‘Time for Tea’. Each of the four Year 11 students approached the project in different ways. To get started, students conducted some heavy research in the café at Staunton Country Park – many cups of tea and slices of cake were consumed, purely for coursework purposes of course!

Our Chapel Choir once again achieve excellence at the 2013 Portsmouth Music Festival.
The 42 boys entered two categories – the free choice and religious songs. There were many choirs who entered on the day ranging from Primary Schools, Secondary School, Prep Schools and open age choirs.

Love was well and truly in the air during our House Music concert on Wednesday 13 February.
Each House performed a 15 minute programme of music and song to the theme of love – for Valentine’s Day. Each programme included a traditional Choral piece; an instrumental; a pop song; the School Hymn, and an item of choice.
