Learning about Chinese New Year

Our Pre-prep children took part in a variety of craft activities on Monday 23 January to celebrate the Chinese New Year of the dragon.
The Stars children from our Nursery joined our older Pre-Prep (Infant) children on a programme of activities which included making paper lanterns and Chinese dragons, decorating red envelopes and tasting Chinese food. Each activity lasted 30 minutes and helped the children to understand what Chinese New Year is all about.
Melissa is in Year 2 enjoyed the craft activities and said “I’ve been making lanterns and Chinese Dragons this morning because it is Chinese New Year today. After break we will taste Chinese food, which I am looking forward to because I like it!”
All the children enjoyed trying spring rolls, prawn toast and prawn crackers. Quinn (Year 1) said, “I liked the spring rolls best – but they were a bit spicy!”
Biboye (Year 1) said “I liked making my dragon puppet best – I did a dragon dance with it afterwards.”
