Our fields played host to the Nike UK team on Monday 20 May, as the new England Football kit was launched.

We were delighted to welcome back to our playing fields in Farlington former pupil and Arsenal Footballer Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, as he presented one lucky pupil with the new England shirt.

Several Cricket fixtures in the past week have seen us finally agree that the Summer Term has indeed begun, just one week before half-term!

On Thursday 16 May we travelled away to Portsmouth Grammar School for our first ever girls’ cricket match.   

In April members of our Chapel Choir took part in a mammoth Sponsored Swim to raise funds for their Tour in August. Monies have been counted and the total amount raised has just been announced!

This week has been Keep Safe Week in the Junior School.

The week forms part of our PSHE programme and a variety of activities, visitors and talks were provided for the children.

Last term our Head of RE received details of an art competition for Lasallian schools from Jo Millea, the Head of Art at St Helen's.

Year 10 student and violinist Conroy is one member of the newly-formed group ‘The Hampshire Youth Swing Trio’.  Together they played a concert at the Great Hall, Winchester, on Saturday the 11 May.

Last Tuesday the Politics Society received a visit from Bishop Richard Moth, the Catholic Bishop of the Forces.

At the beginning of the year each Year 7 form was given a booklet with 50 fun tasks to do either individually, at home or as a class. Once completed, Form Tutors sign off the task.

Upper Sixth students of these subjects have benefited from two talks by visiting speakers recently, as part of their A Level revision programme.

Last Friday, 3 May, was the inaugural St John’s Singing Day which took place all day in the NBH.

In total over 150 children aged between 9 and 13 years spent a day of fun and music making.  Of the 150 children, approximately 100 were visitors to St John’s. The choirs of Oakwood School, Sherborne House School and King’s Court School joined our St John’s Junior School Choir, Girls’ Choir and the Chapel Choir.

The weather gods certainly have a sense of humour. The previous week had seen rain suggestive of a new flood; the Bronze group had wall-to-wall sunshine with frozen water-butts overnight.

A new format for the House Hockey was introduced for this term. The concept was for each House to select a team with a minimum of two players from each team group: Under-12, Under-13, Under-14, Under-15 & 1st XI.  Each team then played against every other team in a league system, with the top team being crowned House Hockey champions 2013.

On Friday 26 April, Year 10 and 11 Drama students went to see John Godber's Teechers at The Berry Theatre in Southampton.

The St John’s College performance of ‘Crime, Lust and Pixie Dust’ at the 2013 Be Your Best Rock Challenge on Monday 22 April won two awards – a superb achievement for the school’s second entry to the UK Rock Challenge dance competition.
