GCSE Coursework

Time for Tea

One of this year’s GCSE Textiles coursework projects was entitled ‘Time for Tea’. Each of the four Year 11 students approached the project in different ways.   To get started, students conducted some heavy research in the café at Staunton Country Park – many cups of tea and slices of cake were consumed, purely for coursework purposes of course!

End of Year Art Exhibition

On Friday 22 June the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth joined students and their friends and family at our end of year Art Exhibition.

The Private View was hosted by Head of Art, Mrs Karen Brown, and Art Teacher Mrs Lizzie Merkin. GCSE and A Level art students exhibited over 100 pieces of artwork, ranging from acrylic paintings, 2D art, sculpture, textiles and printing.

Spring Art Show success

Family and friends of pupils in the Junior and Senior School attended the school’s first whole-school Art Exhibition on Thursday 23 February to help raise money for children’s charity Soham for Kids. Over £300 was raised for the charity, which provides free schooling to children living in the deprived area of Hyderabad, India.

Spring Art Exhibition brings Junior and Senior pupils together

Junior and Senior pupils of St John’s College are busy preparing for the School’s first whole-school exhibition in aid of children’s charity Soham for Kids.   Works of art will go on display for one-day only on Thursday 23 February in the New Benildus Hall.

Pupils from Year 8 who were selected last year to take part in the Passport to Success scheme, run by Portsmouth’s Lord Mayor Cheryl Buggy, stepped up to a creative challenge on Tuesday 20 September at HMS Nelson’s gym.

Student John Hui creates a room with a view

Title

John Hui, aged 18 and from Hong Kong, was asked by Head of Boarding Mr Mike Renahan to brighten up the windowless kitchen by painting a mural of a window scene on the wall. Wanting to create something a bit different that would surprise other house-mates, John and fellow student, Kevin Li, also aged 18 from Hong Kong, set to work on painting a PC window, showing the typical Windows start up screen of blue sky and green grass.
