Year 2 pupils at Staunton

Year Two enjoyed some lovely weather and fun learning activities at Staunton Country Park last week.

Pupils listened for sounds and made musical compositions based on the journey they took around Staunton. They pretended to be centipedes on their journey, blindfolded to strengthen and test their senses!    They also played a game of ‘Bat and Moth’.

Junior School on safari at Marwell

On Friday 27 April a group of Year 6 and Reception pupils travelled to Marwell Zoo.

For many of the Reception pupils, this was the first time they had visited a zoo and came face to face with animals they had only ever seen on the television or in books. Despite the wet weather, they were able to see at first hand just how big the giraffes and rhinos were. They were also entertained by a small colony of meerkats.

Junior School visit  Northern France

A party of 34 Junior School pupils and five staff have just returned from a five-day visit to Le Pré Catelan, situated on Hardelot Plage on the Côte d’Opale in Northern France.

After unpacking and enjoying our first meal, we walked to the beach for our evening activities. It soon became apparent that burying your best pal and building sand castles was very popular and would continue to be for the rest of the holiday.

Junior School Spring Concert

There was standing room only on the evening of Thursday 22 March as over 60 Junior School pupils presented a highly entertaining musical concert to their parents and friends.

During the first part of the concert, the audience was treated to some excellent music, ranging from the Choir of over 50 pupils to individual pieces on piano, recorder and saxophone.

Sport Relief Mile and Cake Morning in aid of the Rowans Hospice

‘How far is a mile?’ This was one question asked by many children before they committed to running the Sport Relief Mile on Friday. To teachers of a certain vintage, this was very easy. It is, in fact, 1609 metres and armed with this information, Ms Puddick went about measuring a course around the school in readiness.

IET Formula Goblin Challenge 2012

On Saturday morning (10 March), a team of seven Junior School pupils took part in this year’s Greenpower Challenge at HMS Excellent.

They had spent the last month or so modifying and perfecting last year’s go-kart and produced a new racing trim for the event which attracted 19 schools from all around the Hampshire and parts of West Sussex.

On Wednesday March 7 the Under 11 7-a-side rugby team travelled to Oakwood School to compete in their annual Sevens’ tournament, an event that attracts the best rugby playing schools in Hampshire and West Sussex.

World Book Day

Nursery children and Reception pupils dressed as their favourite book characters today in celebration of World Book Day (Thursday 1 March).

Characters were varied and included Angelina Ballerina, the Mermaid Ariel, Captain Hook, Cinderella, a car driver from Cars, Sleeping Beauty, Minnie Mouse and Fireman Sam.

Year 6 investigate crime!

On Thursday 1 March our Year 6 pupils visited the Institute of Criminal Justice Studies at the University of Portsmouth.

During their two-hour visit, children were given an insight into why crimes are committed and the subsequent approaches to punishment. This was followed by the taking of fingerprints and the analysis of them.
