On Tuesday 6 March the Nursery joined Reception children to take part in ‘Science Funday’. The day was designed to promote independent learning skills as the children freely explored colour and bubbles.

Learning about Chinese New Year

Our Pre-prep children took part in a variety of craft activities on Monday 23 January to celebrate the Chinese New Year of the dragon.

The Stars children from our Nursery joined our older Pre-Prep (Infant) children on a programme of activities which included making paper lanterns and Chinese dragons, decorating red envelopes and tasting Chinese food.  Each activity lasted 30 minutes and helped the children to understand what Chinese New Year is all about.

On Wednesday 18January the Stars from our Nursery joined children from Reception for lunch at Chez Choi Chinese Restaurant in Southsea, as part of their topic ‘Around the World’.

Born in a Barn

On Monday 12 December children from our Nursery and Infant School entertained local nurseries and members of the community as they performed their Nativity play: ‘Born in a Barn’.

The children, aged between two and seven years old, told the adapted Christmas story through drama, music and song. Born in a Barn was written by Niki Davies, author and composer of children’s musicals, nativity musicals and children’s songbooks. Songs included ‘Don’t worry Mary’, ‘No Room’, and ‘Don’t wake the Baby’.

Pyjama Fun Day at St John’s

On Friday 20 May, our Rockets and Stars wore their pyjamas to school to raise money for brain injury charity Momentum.  The big event of the day was the Pyjama Party – where children enjoyed party games such as musical bumps and statues.  The rest of the day allowed for children to take part in their normal routine – dressed a little more casually!  Children took part in outdoor play and after lunch had their usual dancing class.
