Rev Bro Bernard Hayward FSC

Rev Bro Benedict Foy FSC

Mr David Chapman

Chair of Education Committee

David Chapman picDavid Chapman currently works as an educational consultant, advising Heads, Governors and school staff on strategy, image and standards. Before that he was a headmaster and principal for twenty-one years and, in 2007, chairman of the Society of Heads (SHMIS). Educated at Churcher's College and Durham University, his first secondary post was at St John's, where he had the privilege of teaching a generation of Johannians which included George Alagiah. His career in schools spanned nearly forty years, during which he taught from age 3 to 18 years, in both state and independent sectors, and was a Form Tutor, Head of Department, Housemaster, Head of Boarding and member of senior leadership teams for 35 of those years.

His last full-time post in education was directing development for a large group of independent schools which also ran seventeen academies, seeking to make a real difference in inner-cities: an appointment which confirmed his view that the only justification for independent schools is their restless energy to lead by example and to hammer home the message that each child only gets one chance at education and each child deserves the best.
