Sixth Form

Our aim at St John’s is to create an environment which enables our students to gain excellent A Level results whilst developing confidence and skills in many other areas. Academic success is very important, but at St John’s we wish to develop and enhance our pupils’ personal qualities by getting involved and taking responsibility.

We anticipate that Sixth Formers will contribute to the management of the School and its continuing improvement.  There are many opportunities to take on leadership roles, both in school and the individual Houses. We value our senior pupils’ ideas, expect them to show initiative, and to grow more confident as they learn and lead others. At St John’s we welcome students with a wide range of abilities.

We are proud of our track record in helping our young people to gain places at a range of prestigious universities.

A-Level Subjects Offered

At St Johns’ we offer a broad, flexible menu of Advance Level subjects. Advice on the initial choice of subjects is offered to students on an individual basis before they join the Sixth Form. In the Lower Sixth, students will generally be recommended to study four Advanced Subsidiary (AS) subjects. This is because it is most important that students obtain the highest possible grades for higher education application. In the Upper Sixth (Year 13), students will be expected to continue their study of three of these subjects in a greater depth at A2. A student who completes an AS and an A2 in a given subject is awarded an Advanced Level qualification at the end of the Upper Sixth.
